NO MORE PLUNDERING: LABOR WILL PRESERVE GREEN WEDGES

Posted on 28. Oct, 2014 in Clayton Update

An Andrews Labor Government will lock down the boundaries of Melbourne’s green wedges, ending the Napthine Government’s incursions into our open landscapes.

Labor’s Shadow Planning Minister, Brian Tee, made the announcement at the Green Wedge Coalition Annual General Meeting at Parliament House today.

Green wedge boundaries will be preserved for the life of a Labor Government, preventing inappropriate development from deteriorating the areas.

Protecting green wedges will also protect 6000 jobs in horticultural and agricultural businesses that grow much of Victoria’s fresh fruit and vegetables.

Key Facts

In Government, Labor’s planning overlays prevented development in green wedge land. In 2013, the Napthine Government made changes to allow the development of airfields, treatment plants and rogue puppy farms. Dense development was also sanctioned on smaller blocks.
