Denis Napthine must apologise for another morning of major disruptions and delays on the Cranbourne Line.

A lack of planning, replacement services and travel information caused the confusion, which occurred during scheduled maintenance works.

Buses were meant to replace trains between Oakleigh and Dandenong on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines but key information regarding the service changes on the Public Transport Victoria website were incorrect.

Quotes attributable to Shadow Transport Minister Jill Hennessy:

“Denis Napthine only cares about big headlines and flashy advertisements – he’s not interested in improving public transport for people who have to use it every day.”

“Commuters understand the need for regular maintenance, but they deserve clear information and replacement services.”

“Only Labor will build Melbourne Metro Rail and double the size of the City Loop, so more trains can run on the Cranbourne Line.”

Quote attributable to Clayton MP Hong Lim:

“The sheer chaos this morning at Clayton Rail Station from incorrect information on the Public Transport Victoria website resulted in hundreds of commuters being late for their appointments”.

“Residents in my electorate deserve better”.

Key Facts
• Over the last ten years there has been a 70 per cent increase in the number of people using Melbourne’s metropolitan train system – particularly during peak periods.
• It is predicted that over the next two decades the number of trips on the rail network will increase to 1.7 million each day.
• Labor will remove 50 of our most dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne, including over ten level crossings on the Dandenong rail corridor.
• A study last year conducted by Denis Napthine’s Transport Department, also said Labor’s Melbourne Metro project would unclog the City Loop and allow more train services.
