BUDGET REALITY – NAPTHINE’S BUDGET HURTS WORKERS AND CONSUMERS

Posted on 07. May, 2014 in News

Denis Napthine’s Budget demonstrates the Government’s failure in Consumer Affairs and WorkCover.

WorkCover is set to pay the Government over $600 million in dividends over the next four years.

Consumer Affairs assistance will be slashed, with the number of telephone services for information and advice to be cut by 33,000 contacts, from 408,000 in 2013-14 down to 375,000 in 2014-15.

This is taking place after approximately 200 jobs have been slashed at both WorkSafe and Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV).

Quotes attributable to Mr Scott:

“Denis Napthine is exposing consumers to rip-offs and putting workers safety at risk through job cuts.”

“$600 million is set to be taken from WorkCover as dividends, something Labor never did.”

“Under Denis Napthine and the Liberals, if you’re a consumer or a worker, you’re on your own.”

• Previous budget cuts to Consumer Affairs Victoria have reduced its ability to promote and protect consumers.
