VALE CLYDE HOLDING – STATEMENT FROM THE LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION

Posted on 02. Aug, 2011 in News

I am saddened to hear of the passing of the Honourable Clyde Holding and I extend my deepest sympathies to his family.

Mr Holding was a dedicated and long-serving member of the Labor Party and will be remembered for the significant contribution he made as an MP in both the State and Federal parliaments, as Leader of the Labor Party and President of the Victorian Branch.

Mr Holding was a visionary leader, a reformer, a person of ideas and extraordinary capacity.

He was central to the modernisation and reform of Victorian Labor – reform that enabled Labor to win government in Victoria and Federally.

Mr Holding had a long and distinguished Ministerial career but always remained in touch with his local constituency, working tirelessly to represent the concerns of his Richmond and, later, Melbourne Ports electorates.

All of us in the Labor Party and the broader Labor movement are better for his contribution and deeply saddened by his loss.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
