Opposition Leader Daniel Andrews today condemned the Baillieu Government for failing to negotiate fairly with Victorian nurses and forcing them to take the significant step of threatening to resign.

“Nurses work hard each and every day to care for Victorians, and deserve to be supported by the State Government,” Mr Andrews said.

“Mr Baillieu’s continual refusal to negotiate in good faith has left the nurses with no choice but to take this action.

“The Premier has only himself to blame for a breakdown in negotiations.

“Mr Baillieu is trying to destroy nurse-to-patient ratios, putting more pressure on the nursing workforce and will mean less care for Victorian patients.

“His own leaked Cabinet documents show this.

“For the sake of Victorian patients, Mr Baillieu and his Health Minister David Davis need to step up to the negotiating table and give nurses a fair go.”
