BAILLIEU AND WALSH’S WATER POLICY TO HIT FAMILIES HARD

The Baillieu Government’s secret plan to slug families with higher water bills has been exposed in its own so-called “water road map”, Labor Water spokesman John Lenders said today.

Mr Lenders said hidden away on page 16 of the Living Melbourne, Living Victoria was a move by the Coalition Government to change how Victorians paid for their water use.

“Water Minister Peter Walsh is sneakily forcing Victorians to pay more for their water yet the Coalition pledged to reduce the cost of living for families and only 100 days later, they are planning to leave families worse off,” Mr Lenders said.

“The Coalition’s water road map is an attack on the families of Melbourne and flags the introduction of new advanced water metering.

“They have spent years attacking smart meters in Opposition and now by stealth they are bringing it back.”

Mr Lenders said the Coalition Government was simply telling Victorians they could use as much water as they like as long as you are able to pay for it.

“Mr Walsh is targeting Melbourne families who will be worse off and suffering under even more cost of living pressures,” he said.

“And this comes after Mr Walsh’s decision to scrap Target 155, a campaign that saved billions of litres of water.

“Mr Walsh said the campaign that helped reduce Victoria’s water consumption was nothing but spin.

“Today, the Mr Walsh’s secret plan to slug Victorian families with higher water bills has been exposed.”
