Unsolicited sales people and intrusive door knockers are becoming more of a problem in our area but you can do something about it.

Increasingly, I am hearing complaints about sales people pressuring residents into unwanted contracts or products that are too good to be true.

However, there are rules these door sales people MUST comply with, such as:

•    If you ask the seller to leave, he or she must leave immediately
•    Sellers are required to provide evidence of their identity
•    A seller must tell you that they are not allowed to stay longer than one hour unless     you consent in writing
•    Any agreement that you make with a door to door seller to purchase goods or         services must be in writing
•    You ARE allowed to cancel an agreement with a door to door seller within 10 days if you change your mind

If you are still approached or contacted by someone you can report them to Consumer Affairs Victoria on 1300 558 181.

If you would like a ‘Local Guide to Telemarketing’ information brochure and a ‘Do Not Knock’ sticker for your front door, please call my office on 9543 6081.

Yours sincerely,
