AAA HERE TO STAY UNDER A BRUMBY LABOR GOVERNMENT

Posted on 26. Oct, 2010 in Victoria

Today the Brumby Labor Government received a AAA credit rating for its disciplined financial management from respected international credit rating agency, Standard and Poor’s.

Treasurer John Lenders said the rating reflected Victoria’s healthy budget despite taking a financial hit from the Global Financial Crisis.

In giving its rating on Victoria’s finances report today Standard and Poor’s credited the Brumby Labor Government’s “very capable management and ongoing fiscal discipline, a resilient and diversified economy, and robust operating position” – Standard and Poor’s 26 October 2010

“Victoria has the strongest finances of any state because of our disciplined financial management,” Mr Lenders said.

“The Brumby Labor Government’s strong leadership is keeping our economy heading in the right direction and we are creating more jobs than any other state.

“We are proud of our AAA credit rating and by submitting our election promises to the independent Victorian Treasury for costing we plan to keep it.

“However if Mr Baillieu keeps spending like a drunken sailor Victoria’s AAA credit rating will be under threat.

“For the sake of Victoria’s finances I call on him to submit his election promises to the independent Victorian Treasury for costing.

“The Victorian public has the right to know if a political party’s election promises are affordable or not but unfortunately Mr Baillieu wants to keep the true cost of his promises secret until after election day just like Tony Abbott did.”
