Speech at Clayton Community Festival

The Seventh Clayton Community Festival was celebrated on the main street of Clayton, attracting more than 20,000 local and regional audiences. For the whole day, the street had been brought to life by wonderful activities, entertainment, traders and community groups and the festival 2009 was regarded one of the most successful in the recent years.

I am invited as a special guest to the event each year and I always find attending it an exciting and spirit-lifting experience. The strong sense of diversity is expressed in the music, the food and the languages spoken; the STRONGER sense of unity is shared as people gather together to proudly celebrate their identities as Victorians and Australians, who are enjoying the common multicultural democracy.

This year especially, I was impressed by the fact that there are so many innovative additions to the festival program, such as a youth zone and an expanded environmental zone. These boosts in young people
